Bordeaux mixture achieves its effect by means of the copper ions (Cu2+) of the mixture. These ions affect enzymes in the fungal spores in such a way as to prevent germination. This means that Bordeaux mixture must be used pre-emptively, before the fungal disease has struck.
It is an excellent fungicide & controls fungal diseases like blights, blasts, downy mildew etc in various crops Eg.Grapes, pomegranate, tomato etc.
As well as its use to control fungal infection on grape vines the mixture is also widely used to control potato blight, peach leaf curl and apple scab. It is approved for organic use and so is often used by organic gardeners where non-organic gardeners would prefer other controls.
Its pH is neutral and stable. So it is safe to use through sprays on different crops. It doesn’t cause any harmful effect on crops.
It is comparatively cheaper and effective fungicide available to farmers.
It can be used to control wilting & damping off diseases arising from soil. To control these soil borne diseases, drenching of Eazy-Bordo is recommended.
Eazy Bordo (powder) can be used for pasting on stems of various fruit crops.
